STECKMAP: STEllar Content and Kinematics via Maximum A
Posteriori
Reconstructing the star formation history of a galaxy from its integrated
light allows to study the relation of galaxy evolution and formation
with environment (cluster vs field galaxies), general morphology
(spheroidal vs disc), morphological features (bars, spiral patterns, dust
lanes in ellipticals). As such it is a very important tool. The principles
of the reconstruction of galactic Star Formation History through Maximum A
Posteriori likelihood are detailed in the publications
STECMAP and
STECKMAP . A package containing the implementation of these inverse methods and other tools in yorick is available for download. More details here .
